It would appear that FC Barcelona still need to make advancements for certain targets. Not every signing that is made every summer has to necessarily be a player, and other technical positions also need attention. For Barcelona, that comes as a consequence of recruiting a new coach this summer.

With Hansi Flick set to come in and replace the departing Xavi Hernandez, the German coach may potentially have some issues fully incorporating himself within the Blaugrana dressing room. However, to help him better deal with such pressures and new experiences, Barcelona reportedly had the idea of bringing in a new assistant for him.

This assistant would need to be someone fluent in both Spanish and German, with experience from both La Liga and the Bundesliga as well. For this, the priority candidate was 33-year-old Thiago Alcantara, as revealed previously by various sources, but even that front has its complications apparently.

According to Mundo Deportivo, however, Barcelona are yet to make any advances for Thiago. The player himself has not yet received any approach from Barcelona regarding such a position or role, despite being the prime candidate for it as per several reports.

Furthermore, there is another complication that continues to grow for Barcelona as time passes. Thiago, at least for now, does not wish to hang up his boots and take up a technical role altogether.

Instead, especially with the amount of football he has missed recently, the Spanish midfielder who has previously played for both Barcelona and Bayern Munich wishes to continue in his playing days.

On the other hand, if Barcelona were to act a bit faster and more convincingly, Thiago may not be a completely lost case. However, the longer that Barça prolongs this, the more complicated the case becomes for them to fully convince Thiago to join and return to Barcelona, even if it is as an assistant to Hansi Flick.

In the event that Thiago’s arrival becomes too complicated to consider, Barcelona have other options lined up too. Both Javi Martinez and Marc Bartra are names that Barça have considered as well. Ultimately, however, Thiago would be their primary target, and if they truly wish to acquire his services, urgency will be key for Barcelona.
