The interest from FC Barcelona remains consistently ever-present when it comes to scouting top talents and acquiring them so that they may adorn the Blaugrana colors too at one point in their careers. A club that keeps an emphasis on its youth development, Barcelona are always one to watch out for when it comes to developing talents.
However, despite the obvious interest from the Catalan club in various ascending youngsters, it does not necessarily mean they are the only ones interested in said talents. Across the European continent, many elite clubs are understandably also interested in elite developing talents just as Barcelona themselves are.
As a result, Barcelona now are expected to face stiff competition in the battle to acquire one of Spain’s brightest talents in the form of 18-year-old right-back Ivan Fresneda, born in Madrid and currently representing Segunda Division side Real Valladolid.
Having played last season in the first division, the player had a reported release clause of €40 million, but that value has since allegedly dropped to €20 million due to Real Valladolid having been relegated to the Segunda Division, a figure that would be enticing to a lot of European clubs.
Now in the most recent of updates provided by Italian journalist Matteo Moretto of RELEVO, Serie A side AC Milan are reportedly closing in on reaching an agreement with the 18-year-old Spaniard, as the red and blacks of Milan were also one of the sides quite interested in acquiring the Barcelona target.
The essential priorities for Barcelona remain the arrival of a top-level pivot and only afterwards was the consideration of a right-back to be brought into the light.
While it just so happens that the Catalan club is currently struggling in their primary hunt, it now seems that they may potentially lose a target out of their secondary priority position as well.
It remains to be seen how FC Barcelona responds to this development regarding Fresneda and to what extremes. As of right now, it is believed that the Catalan club is most focused on finalizing an agreement with Turkish wonderkid Arda Guler as they believe his talent is one they simply cannot pass on as other European clubs also loom over the Fenerbahce prodigy.
