FC Barcelona still remains active in the market to find a new player as their pivot. The Catalan giants still suffer from the departure of Sergio Busquets, and have not been able to find an adequate replacement. While Barcelona do have alternatives, they just do not convince the same way.

There are many names that the Catalan giants have turned towards as a result. Some of them have emerged as links from Spain, others from England, and some from other countries. Thus far, there is no concrete answer as to who Barcelona will end up going for.

One name that was quite heavily linked to Barcelona some time back, however, was Joshua Kimmich. Among the stars of Bayern Munich at their best, the 29-year-old midfielder has been one of their best servants. For this reason, the Bavarian giants were not too pleased about the possibility of Barcelona taking away their German enforcer.

However, it now seems that the tides have shifted ever so noticeably. Kimmich is no longer happy with his place within Bayern, especially with the frequent positional changes. Reports suggest he wanted to continue playing as a defensive pivot, but those within Bayern and Germany rely on him as a right-back.

Yet, with the managerial position set to be compromised in the summer, uncertainty looms. Thomas Tuchel will not be staying with Bayern, and Kimmich’s strained relationship with him will vanish too. Even the previous coach, Julian Nagelsmann, was unable to connect well with the German star.

Accordingly, as highlighted by SPORT, even Bayern themselves are not so sure anymore. In terms of where Kimmich will be next season, there is a lot of uncertainty being generated within the camps of the Bavarian giants.

While he remains contracted to them until 2025, there is no longer a guarantee he will stay till then. Even Max Eberl, the sporting director of the club, has added some fuel to the fire that Barcelona so desperately wishes to ignite further:

“I think a new coach has different points of view, and he will see players differently. That’s basically something we will have to wait for and see. But I would like to talk to (Joshua Kimmich), the conversation has not happened yet, but it will because he is an important player for Bayern.”

Those within Barcelona will be looking with great interest at this development. As far as reports go, Kimmich was among Xavi’s priority targets at one point. However, due to financial limitations, that dream could not be realized. Now, however, it seems that the Kimmich saga will be there for Barcelona to tend to in the summer.
