Barcelona target Bernardo Silva

Barcelona target sees Man City offer €18 million contract renewal – report

The economic situation at FC Barcelona is such that it has in recent seasons restricted La Blaugrana from truly diving deep into the transfer window and realistically being able to pursue talents of the highest calibre at any given point in time.

As such, Barcelona continues to maintain interest in particular players, but remains unable to properly challenge for their signature due to their restricted spending limits and are unable to compete with the exorbitant deals that other clubs, particularly state-owned ones, are able to offer.

The most recent of Barcelona’s transfer targets, and one that they have been following on and off for the last couple of seasons, Bernardo Silva, is becoming the key objective for several clubs over this summer window.

While Barcelona themselves are also among those who remain heavily interested, they are simultaneously not as strong a possibility for the Portuguese star’s next club due to financial limitations.

According to a recent report by Spanish outlet SPORT, the player’s current club, Manchester City, are continuing their own efforts to ensure the 28-year-old’s renewal at the English club and have thus increased their renewal offer to a presented salary of €18 million a year.

While the offer from Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia at €30 million a year still remains the most financially superior offer on the table for the Portuguese, the offer from City gradually becomes more and more appealing due to both the immense financial package as well as the ability to compete at the highest European level in arguably the most in-form team in the continent.

Bernardo Silva was pivotal to Manchester City’s spectacular 2022/2023 season, in which they managed to win the continental treble for the first time in their history, simultaneously becoming only the second-ever English team to win the treble.

While Barcelona too remain quite invested in the Portuguese winger, his huge transfer fee coupled with his current stay at Manchester City still being valid till 2025, makes it quite unlikely that La Blaugrana will be able to bring the midfielder over to Catalonia any time soon.
