FC Barcelona are always in the market to look out for talented stars in the making and those who have already laid the foundations for their huge individual potential. Despite their financial limitations, the Catalan club is not one to let such hurdles stop them in their tracks.
Oftentimes, emerging talents from obscure leagues and clubs end up being great talents to follow that hold a lot of personal quality as well as being much cheaper alternatives to other stars from top sides in Europe. As such, Barcelona have been on the lookout for talented football stars from different regions and less observed clubs.
According to Oriol Domenech, FC Barcelona are among the clubs that are currently following talented 18-year-old Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, as the young European star is gradually beginning to make a name for himself.
Currently contracted to Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp, the right-footed midfielder is versatile enough to play both as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder.
He also boasts an impressive height of 1.80 meters and has represented the Belgian National team at the Under-21 level as well as others below that.
According to Transfermarkt, the 18-year-old Belgian star is valued at €17 million at this moment in time, but given his trajectory and potential, it is safe to assume that this value will only increase moving forward.
More or less a player for Royal Antwerp for several years now, having represented them at younger levels before the senior team, he now looks set to become a proper first-team member.
The interest from FC Barcelona has emerged recently for Vermeeren, and his ability to play as a defensive midfielder could have been one of the main reasons Barca are so interested and intrigued by the prospect of being able to sign him.
Nevertheless, fans of La Blaugrana may just get a chance to see the talented youngster in action against FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants will take on the Belgian side of Royal Antwerp on the 19th of September at the Montjuic Stadium for their first clash of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
