The new arrivals at FC Barcelona were called upon to boost the Catalan giants. Joao Felix, Joao Cancelo, and the emergence of stars such as Lamine Yamal were all crucial. Incorporated to enhance the offensive capabilities of Barcelona, they ended up doing just that.
In a recent update provided by Mundo Deportivo, based on data collected by Subham, Barça’s offensive capabilities have been compared to other teams in Europe’s top 5 leagues. The data provides a detailed insight into Barça’s offensive prowess.
Creative genius of Barcelona
In terms of chance creation, the Blaugranes are second only to one club. German giants Bayern Munich created the most chances in this season thus far and are the only team above FC Barcelona.
In terms of goals scored, Barcelona (21) is only bested by the likes of Bayern (23) Bayer Leverkusen (23), and Stuttgart (22). Interestingly, only clubs from the German Bundesliga have statistically outscored La Blaugrana. However, therein lies the problem as well.
Lack of efficiency
Despite Barca’s high number of goals, they should be scoring much more. Even with the superiority of their chance creation, they are less efficient than the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, and even PSG when it comes to making them count.
Even though they create less chances, they have taken less of them to put balls in the back of the net as compared to Barcelona and their wasteful opportunities.
Another major concern is that of chances conceded. As per the same data collection, Barcelona concedes way too many chances to opponents for a club of their level. Teams like Hellas Verona, Torino, and even Lens concede fewer chances than what Barcelona do.
Their defensive woes were apparent but this just shows how drastically Barcelona needs to improve. If things continue this way, Barcelona will concede much more than the 10 goals they have already conceded this season.
While the current group of players is extraordinary in their attacking capabilities, Xavi needs to address the defensive instability. The Catalan giants will need to continue their trend of offensive chance creations while simultaneously tightening their defensive holes to remain competitive this season.
