Barcelona have both approved and made advancements to initiate the contract renewal of young La Masia prodigy Angel Alarcon as per reports from Relevo. The 18-year-old Spanish forward is amongst those favoured by Xavi himself as potential additions to the first team should the need present itself.

In principle, the player is expected to sign with the club for a further two seasons. Xavi insists as well that Alarcon is a player that he even considered bringing on against Getafe when both Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski were unavailable.

As of right now, the manager has already involved the young Spaniard in the first team dynamics following the World Cup within the early training sessions and even gave him his debut in the Copa Del Ray round of 16 game against Ceuta.

With his contract running out in June, the player has had the leeway to openly negotiate with other interested sides for quite some time now. Mostly garnering interest from the English sides, his renewal seemed a distant hope for the Catalan outfit. Yet as time has passed and Xavi has persistently shown confidence in the youngster, the contractual tides have ultimately turned and the player’s renewal now remains just an imminent happening.

The contract placed before the player is beneficial to all parties involved. The player can be evaluated well enough during the duration of this renewal offered for the club to make an advanced decision in the future if they wish to offer an even longer contract, whereas in the case of Alarcon himself, he would have enough time to make sense of the conditions and fulfillments he’s being given by the club and if they match up to what he was initially offered.

In the upcoming clash against Girona in La Liga Santander, Angel Alarcon may just end up getting a shot at league action as well. Given the absentees in Xavi’s frontline, having a talented backup option such as Alarcon surely would not hurt. Getting to see the youngster in action would also be a great introduction to a majority of unaware fans who may finally get to have a glimpse of the academy jewel.
