Not every player at FC Barcelona currently will have the same role next season. La Blaugrana hope to go through a revolution of change, and to see the team evolve into a much more competitive version of itself. To do this, Barcelona believe, some crucial changes must be brought into play.
One of the changes that, for this reason specifically, is not being scribbled off as a mere idea is the possible sale of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has been Barça’s top scorer this season, but the impact of those goals has hardly been as influential as it was last season when the Barcelona ace’s goals steered the Catalan giants to a La Liga title.
However, the possibility of a sale or departure for Lewandowski does not sit right with everyone. It especially does not seem to sit right with the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi. As a result, according to SPORT, the agent of the Barcelona superstar is set to meet up with important representatives from the club to discuss his client’s future.
Deco and Joan Laporta, the Director and President of FC Barcelona respectively, are the figures that Zahavi will directly come into contact with. The agent will look to ensure that his client’s future is cemented beforehand, and that there is full disclosure about what his role is set to be in the upcoming 2024/2025 season.
For Xavi Hernandez, Lewandowski is clearly no longer the untouchable star he once was. This has been clear enough in various games where the Barcelona coach has subbed off the Polish striker in favor of some other forwards even if Barça needed immediate goals to salvage games.
However, even beyond the sporting decline of Lewandowski, the former Bayern Munich man will be an economic burden of the highest proportions in the upcoming season. Upon his initial arrival from Germany, the contract he signed with Barcelona stated that this upcoming season would be the one with the highest payout for him, in exchange for the initial reduced salary that he agreed to upon arriving in Catalonia.
While Barcelona could request a further deferment or a reduction from the player to stay in line with their financial limitations, SPORT reveals that Pini Zahavi may not be too keen on that happening. Believing that his client has already made more than enough sacrifices in his debut season, he now expects Barcelona to uphold their end of the agreement.
However, his future still remains up in the air. Barcelona continue to target new forwards and continue to be linked to new names with each passing day. This only furthers the possibilities of the Polish ace losing more and more opportunities in the next season. Yet, if there is one thing Barcelona are looking to avoid, it is that they will not be forcing the 35-year-old to pack his bags.
Believing that Lewandowski has been a loyal servant to the club over the past season or so, working and adjusting as per the club’s needs, Barcelona hold him in high regard.
Moreover, even in a vulnerable state for the club, the Polish ace joined the Catalan giants when he was at the top of his game despite having to take a pay cut. Ultimately, all these gestures have appealed to Barça, and they will respect the player’s own wishes as well.
