It seems that the signs of critical danger at Barcelona have arrived and have put everyone on alert. La Blaugrana were already struggling this season and it was there for everyone to see and assess. However, Barcelona have now reached a point where drastic measures may have to be taken.

For the Catalan giants, prior to the latest defeat against Real Madrid, there were still four titles to fight for. However, the recent loss makes them lose their chance of winning the Spanish Super Cup, the first title that they could wrap up.

Within the defeat itself, Barcelona were made aware of a lot of different things. While their inability to break down opponents was one of them, their defensive vulnerabilities were even more evident. Conceding four times to Real Madrid, it was shamefull display of defensive organization.

One of the key possible issues that was highlighted as a result of that was the lack of a proper defensive midfielder. While Frenkie De Jong did his best to fill that hole, he simply is not meant for that role. Instead, Mundo Deportivo reports, Barcelona believe another star of theirs may be more suited for it.

Both Xavi and Deco, as per MD, are now in agreement that Andreas Christensen should be utilized as their pivot more often. They highlight that due to his passing range, physical strength, ball recovery, and understanding of the game, he could be a very viable option.

Moreover, he has previously played as a pivot too. Most of that experience, however, was with his former club sides and the Denmark National team. Nonetheless, through his qualities and experience, Barcelona believe he could be the right answer.

For now, the plan is to implement this strategy once Inigo Martinez makes his return from injury. That would allow the Spanish defender to slot right back into the defensive back line, while Christensen would be free to be used as a pivot if Xavi deems it to be necessary.
