Barcelona to offer lower wages in new contract to young goalkeeper – report

The desperate financial conditions at FC Barcelona are impacting all aspects of the club, and the club executives are trying to solve these financial problems as soon as possible. For this purpose, the Catalans are considering all the possible avenues that can help them reduce their financial burdens.

Player wages are one of the major contributors to the club’s bill of expenses, and reducing this bill is vital for the club to sign new players. Selling fringe players is the primary strategy of the Blaugranes for this purpose. Furthermore, according to Mundo Deportivo, the club is also considering offering one of their players a lower contract to allow him to stay with the club for upcoming seasons.

This player in question is the goalkeeper Arnau Tenas, the third goalkeeper of the Barcelona first team, and the captain of Barcelona Atletic. The report mentions that the player had the option to get his contract extended by two years when he signed a renewal in the summer of 2020.

However, Barcelona believe that keeping the player on his previous wages in the current economic environment is not viable, and thus decided not to execute the option of extending the contract by two years.

The Catalan club still wants to keep the goalkeeper but would rather have him sign a new contract than extend the previous one. In this new contract, Barcelona would offer Tenas a lower salary than the previously agreed wage but would compensate by offering a higher number of years.

On his part, Tenas is calm about the situation, as he had a good European U-21 tournament with the Spanish national team. The player also has other offers, including from Real Betis, in addition to the one from Barcelona, and he is allowing his agent, Ivan de la Pena, to decide the course of his future.
