While those who represent FC Barcelona on the field are those that get greeted with most of the plaudits and much of the general affection from the fans, there are also those that continue to work behind the scenes to ensure the club’s sustainability.
These shadows behind the scenes are the real puppeteers who string together every action in regards to who stays at the club and who doesn’t, and much apart from that as well. In recent days, advancements have been visibly made in various operations, and it is especially due to the progress made by one particular individual.
Unofficially, FC Barcelona have already brought in a new Sporting Director to replace Jordi Cruyff, who was the previous holder of that position since 2021, in the form of ex-Barca player and former Brazil national team player, Deco.
According to an interview published in “La Vanguardia” and reported by SPORT, Barcelona president Joan Laporta addressed the concern of when Deco was to be officially made the Sporting Director of Barcelona, to which the president stated that it would be around the middle of July when his appointment would be made official, stating:
“We will announce him officially in mid-July. He will exercise the same role as of Txiki Begiristain in my first stage.”
The parallels drawn with Txiki Begiristain make a certain sense. The former Spanish footballer is currently the Sporting Director of English Premier League side Manchester City but was also previously the Sporting Director of FC Barcelona from 2003 to 2010 under the presidency of Joan Laporta himself.
Similarly, the Barcelona president will now be appointing Deco officially as the Sporting Director to work with him and it is a huge mark of belief in the Brazilian, as Txiki and Laporta previously managed to usher Barcelona into their new golden era.
At the moment, Deco remains dedicated to finalizing certain operations such as those of Turkish talent Arda Guler as well as others involving Vitor Roque and possibly Ivan Fresneda. While still not officially part of the Barcelona team, the Brazilian has already begun to showcase just why he was brought in.
