Barcelona to officially appoint their next Sporting Director after squad’s return from USA

Barcelona Sporting Director Deco

FC Barcelona are currently occupied with their pre-season tour activities in the USA as the team is training in Los Angeles and getting ready to face Arsenal in the upcoming friendly match. This tour is important for the club as it would help Xavi determine his tactics for the upcoming season.

However, much more significant times await Barcelona after the end of this tour. According to Mundo Deportivo, one of the changes that are expected at FC Barcelona after returning from the USA is the formal appointment of their Sporting Director.

Currently, the higher brass of the Catalan club, including President Joan Laporta, Sports Vice President Rafa Yuste, and Director of Football Mateu Alemany are all in the USA with the Barcelona team.

Deco, who has played an important role in the club’s recent transfers, particularly of Vitor Roque, was also scheduled to travel with the team but ultimately did not take the trans-Atlantic flight as he looked to settle some personal matters in Europe.

One of these matters to be settled is the finishing off of the representation agency he had in operation before getting associated with the Blaugranes.

Settling this matter is important because this is one of the conditions that the club had before appointing Deco as the Sporting Director, and the club will formally appoint him in this position after returning from the US.

In addition to his representation agency, Deco is also taking steps to move his family nearer to his new workplace in FC Barcelona. Despite not having any official position at the Catalan club, Deco has been fully committed and involved in the club’s transfers and other business.

He provided his input in setting the summer market strategy for the club and also traveled to Istanbul to convince Arda Guler for a transfer to Catalonia. Now, with an official position at the club, his role is expected to increase further in the coming weeks and months, which hopefully would benefit the club.
