FC Barcelona are getting increasingly closer to concluding the signing of their next midfield pivot. The Catalan club has already been in agreement with Oriol Romeu for a move to Barcelona for some time, and now his transfer is set to be finalized with an agreement taking place between Barcelona and Girona.
SPORT reports that the transfer operation is actually already complete, and the player is undertaking a medical examination with his new club today. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed this information, and claims Pablo Torre’s loan to Girona will also be a part of this operation.
However, as Gundogan’s presentation is scheduled for today, the Catalans will officially present Romeu as a Barcelona player tomorrow as per the Catalan journalist Gerard Romero.
After joining Barcelona, the midfielder will go on the USA tour, according to the wishes of Xavi. The signing of the La Masia graduate had been expressly asked by Xavi, who believes Romeu’s positional play and defensive skills will bring more balance to Barcelona’s midfield.
The player has been training with Girona for the last few days despite the uncertainty about his future, and thus is in the required fitness and physical preparation to begin the USA tour with the rest of the team.
He will train with his Barcelona teammates once his medical examination is passed in order to develop chemistry with his new teammates. Having trained at La Masia, the midfielder is already well acquainted with the traditional Barcelona style of play.
While his name is not the most eminent of names that have been linked with the Catalan club for the midfield pivot role, the player himself is confident that he will surprise Cules with his performances next season, and will contribute significantly to the new Barcelona project.
