Beyond just the main stars of the team, FC Barcelona are determined to place their bets on their youth. The Catalan giants continue to possess some of European football’s most prodigious talents even today. However, holding onto these young pearls is another dilemma altogether for Barcelona.
While they are players who may have originated from La Masia, and aspire to play for the first team, they are not guaranteed to stay. Some youngsters often have to go elsewhere to find importance once they begin to fade away.
However, there is one player who certainly will not be fading anytime soon. Just like Lamine Yamal before him, Pau Cubarsi is the next in line for Barcelona to lock down to the club for the years to come. According to Mundo Deportivo, negotiations between Barcelona and the representatives of Pau Cubarsi have already kicked off.
Furthermore, the 17-year-old defender’s agent already reportedly has a written proposal from Barcelona. This particular proposal would follow the same guidelines and principles of the contract that was ultimately agreed upon between Barcelona and the representatives of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal.
The contract with Cubarsi would officially be active as soon as he turns of legal age. Since he is already 17, it will not be much longer before that clause is valid. Then, the contract itself would be valid until 2030, almost 6 years from today. Interestingly, even by 2030, Cubarsi would still only be aged 23.
Moreover, Cubarsi’s release clause would also match that of other Barcelona prodigies who have been given the €1 billion treatment. This would far exceed his current release clause, which is speculated to be around or below the €10 million mark.
Given the interest the Barcelona defender has already generated, including suitors from the Premier League keeping an eye on him, it is ideal for Barcelona to settle a long-term agreement with him.
Cubarsi’s goal is to remain at Barcelona and continue shining for them. Consequently, this helps Barcelona to be at ease as they negotiate his future at the club.
