Being one of the biggest clubs in the world of football, not everyone can succeed at FC Barcelona. Some players struggle to keep up with the pressure they feel at Barcelona, a club whose fans demand outstanding performances from players week in, week out, and where the media also keeps a close eye on the everyday activities of the players.
One such player who was not lacking in talent but was unable to succeed in Barcelona in recent years was the French defender Jean-Claire Todibo. After having been unable to impress during his time at Barcelona, the French defender left the club on loan, before establishing himself at and permanently joining the French side OGC Nice.
In Nice, Todibo has grown to become one of the best defenders in Ligue 1, and is now also a regular for the French national team. Naturally, his rise in France has not gone unnoticed, and one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Manchester United, have their eyes firmly set on the defender.
According to SPORT, the Red Devils are preparing for a significant investment in their squad in the upcoming summer window, especially with the aid of the capital that they will get with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s entry as a minority shareholder.
The club would try to incorporate Todibo especially as they are thinking of Varane’s departure, who has declined and lost prominence in the team this season.
However, United have yet to negotiate with Nice for the defender’s transfer, and agree on the transfer fee that they will pay for him. The Frenchman is currently valued at around €30 million, but can end up costing €40 million in the summer.
How much fee Manchester United pays for him would be of particular interest for Barcelona, who have a 20% share in any fee obtained for their former player. The Catalans are aware of the rise in Todibo’s value, and a transfer fee of €30-40 million would mean a significant chunk being added to their own kitty as well.
