Barcelona tracking three candidates to reinforce the right-back spot – report

3 right back options for the upcoming transfer window

Despite the many additions the Catalans made to their sporting project in the summer of 2022, ranging from Robert Lewandowski to bolster their attack to Jules Kounde to reorganize the defense, they seem to still be just short in a few key areas according to both the sporting and technical staffs at the club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the two main positions that Barcelona are reportedly keen on reinforcing are acquiring a new midfielder and a new right-back in January should they manage to stay in the positive financial realms of financial Fairplay.

However, the chronological priority is reportedly the fullback position, as those within Barcelona believe that it is the position least covered in terms of both quality and quantity.

The original idea was to let Hector Bellerin take charge of covering that position instead of Sergino Dest, but due to multiple reasons varying from Fairplay compliance to the player having sustained an injury as well as having lost game rhythm, he was unable to fill that void that Xavi had hoped for. This in turn has even led to reports of the player being sold for a viable offer in order to make way for a new potential replacement.

Currently, as per reliable reports, the three main options being assessed are Juan Foyth (Villarreal), Diogo Dalot (Manchester United), and Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich), all of whom are currently contracted to their respective clubs but the latter two will become free agents in the summer, so it may be possible for the Catalans to acquire good deals for their transfer fees. Foyth on the other hand had been on Barcelona’s radar for quite a while and this could mean that the Catalans have had their pursuit of him reignited to some degree.

As it stands currently though, Barcelona are still waiting to hear upon the legal interpretation of the financial Fairplay and if it is even possible for them to make any signings come January, and to also assure them regarding what measures may be required to facilitate those potential arrivals should it be possible in any particular circumstance.
