2014-15 was one of the most memorable seasons in the history of FC Barcelona, as the club won the treble for the second time in only a decade. The club had its iconic frontline of Messi, Suarez, and Neymar terrorizing the defenders that season, but none of these lethal forwards now remains with the club.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona had the chance to get one of these forwards back in their squad recently. This player is Neymar, who is currently going through an uncertain period at Paris Saint Germain.
According to this report, the player has been contemplating a change of scenery ever since the end of the last season, and his entourage tried to convince Barcelona to get the player back this summer, especially after the Catalan club had missed out on the chance to get Lionel Messi back.
However, the technical department at FC Barcelona ruled out his signing for two reasons. Firstly, they believed that the signing of the mercurial Brazilian was not economically feasible, especially in the currently strained financial conditions of the club.
Secondly, they also believed that incorporating Neymar into the squad would destabilize it and jeopardize the current harmony and camaraderie in the dressing room. Xavi, who had also played with Neymar in his last seasons at the club, was also against the idea of signing him for this exact reason.
The court battles and other legal issues that Neymar has undertaken against the club also weakened his chances of rejoining Barcelona, as the club now considers the Neymar chapter at the club to have been closed for good. Barcelona now have Vitor Roque as their next big Brazilian project.
Meanwhile, Neymar can find PSG more tolerable as Messi has already left, and if Mbappe also leaves this summer, he will be the sole leader of the attack at the Parisian club. For Barcelona, Xavi will be looking to go forward with his squad without the baggage that Neymar brings with him, even though his talents can be highly impactful on the pitch.
