Barring a few more new players in defense and midfield, FC Barcelona are almost set for the upcoming season with the additions they have made in this summer window. However, football is a fickle sport, and a change in one club can have direct or indirect impacts on other clubs as well.
Barcelona are prone to be impacted by such a market movement, as SPORT reports that Paris Saint-Germain are seriously considering a sale of their star forward, Kylian Mbappe. If the Frenchman leaves the Parisian club, PSG are aiming to bring in another Frenchman to replace him, the Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele is arguably the most potent attacking weapon in Xavi’s arsenal, and the report claims that reports linking him to PSG have not led to any particular concern at the Barcelona dressing room. Xavi continues to count on the French winger and is fully confident that Dembele will continue with Barcelona for years to come.
The Barcelona coaching staff and Xavi himself believe that Dembele is quite comfortable and happy at the Catalan club and not considering a change of scenery. They believe even the appointment of Luis Enrique as PSG coach is not going to change Dembele’s mind towards a move to PSG.
Dembele’s current contract with Barcelona expires next summer, but he is already in negotiations with the club for an extension.
However, these negotiations have not reached a conclusive stage yet, and the player will be free to negotiate with other clubs from the start of the coming January. However, Barcelona are not going to risk such a possibility, and have already opened negotiations with Dembele’s entourage.
The coaching staff at Barcelona including Xavi are confident that Dembele will renew, and once that happens, the interest from PSG will pose no danger to the Catalans, even if Kylian Mbappe actually ends up leaving the French club.
