Barcelona are desperate to get exits sorted out ahead of the Athletic Bilbao game to ensure they face no issues in registering Dani Olmo. They must also plan for any new signings they want to wrap up before the deadline.
One player who the club has been desperate to get rid of for quite some time now but is unable to is French defender Clement Lenglet. His renewed contract was ex-Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s parting gift to fans before he resigned from his post amid heavy backlash.
The 29-year-old has absolutely no future in Barcelona but the club is unable to get rid of him permanently due to his massive wages. He has spent a couple of seasons on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and then Aston Villa.
Now, as per SPORT, Barcelona are urging Atletico Madrid to wrap up their loan deal for Clement Lenglet as soon as possible as they need him off their books to help with the registration of players for the season.
Lenglet has clearly prioritized a move to Barcelona’s local rivals and considering the situation the club find themselves in, they don’t have a choice. The 29-year-old has other offers on the table that financially are of lesser interest.
Atletico approached Barcelona a couple of weeks ago and negotiations panned out smoothly in terms of salary split and so on. However, negotiations have stalled with the Spanish club still trying to sell Samu Omordion.
Los Colchoneros are also interested in Feyenoord’s David Hancko although that operation is said to be even more complicated. Barcelona have now put pressure on Atletico to make a decision on Lenglet soon.
One thing that Barcelona cannot afford at any cost is Atletico walking away from the deal. It would leave the club in a fix on what to do with Lenglet. Let’s hope the 29-year-old can leave the club as soon as possible and help Deco & co. get on with their transfer business.
