Top European players tend to attract interest whenever any ambiguity seemingly occurs at their clubs, and FC Barcelona may find a blessing in disguise. Looking to offload certain players in order to compensate for the arrivals next season, interest from other clubs may just help them out.
Barcelona veteran Jordi Alba has been at the forefront of the Catalan creativity from the left flank. Whether it be his now immortalized cut-backs to Lionel Messi or his pinpoint crosses into the 6-yard box, or even his uncanny ability to connect with the ball first-time to devastating effect and memorable goals. He is a Barcelona legend through and through. Alas, time waits for no man.
As per SPORT, the fullback that Barcelona is now looking to offload has garnered even more interest from other European clubs, aside from the earlier reported interest from Atletico Madrid. Now, the signals come from Italy, where two massive Serie A clubs indicate that they would love to have Alba at their own disposal.
Juventus and Inter Milan are the two teams from Italy that have shown the most concrete interest in the Spanish fullback. Inter Milan even attempted to persuade Jordi Alba on joining them on a loan move last summer but it did not amount to much as the player made it clear that he had no intention of leaving.
Fast forward a year later, and while the player still does not intend to leave Barcelona, his situation has changed in terms of importance. The player is no longer the primary contender for that left-back position, with youngster Alejandro Balde having risen to the occasion and becoming the undisputed number one under Xavi Hernandez.
Moreover, Barcelona are concerned regarding Alba’s huge contract that would inevitably have to be paid off next season despite their rather fragile financial situation.
Given the letter of freedom, Inter would undoubtedly make their move, and Juventus would not be far behind. Reportedly, the player has always had admirers in the Italian league, and with clubs over there going for newer, stronger projects, they believe an addition like Jordi Alba would catapult their quality and competitiveness to a whole new level.
