There have been no changes in the FC Barcelona squad in this January transfer window, even though the Catalans have been looking to get at least one offensive reinforcement, for which some sales might also be needed.

However, the Blaugranes have been significantly more successful in their renewal operations, as recently finally concluded one of their more complicated renewal negotiations, with Ronald Araújo. Furthermore, Gerard Martín was also renewed.

Now, Barcelona are looking to complete the renewals of two more key players, Pedri and Gavi, and are hopeful that they will achieve this objective this week.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, these two players can be joined by another key player, as Iñigo Martínez is also expected to extend his contract with the Catalan club till 2026 this week.

The defender, who is in the final stages of his recovery from a hamstring tear that he suffered in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, had the option in his contract to automatically get a renewal for another year if he played at least 60% of the games for at least 45 minutes this season.

But with this move, Barcelona will not have to wait for him to reach this target. Despite the fact that he will already be 34 years of age by next season, the Blaugranes are very satisfied with his performances this season.

Before he was injured in the game against Real Madrid, Martínez had made 27 appearances in total, 18 in La Liga, 6 in the UEFA Champions League, 1 in Copa del Rey, and 2 in the Spanish Super Cup.

He was a starter in all 27 of these games and had been a key part of the backline, where he formed an incredible partnership with Pau Cubarsí that has been key to the execution of Hansi Flick’s offside trap tactic.
