Sailing further away on the ocean of football actualities, the deadline day of the January transfer window brought some incredible deals on the table on the international stage, such as Enzo Fernández’s move to Chelsea, João Cancelo to Bayern or Keylor Navas to Nottingham. However, the domestic happenings around the Catalans’ household brought an even more interesting case.
A case – literally – that few expected, and even more importantly, didn’t desire to see around the club of their heart. Concretely, Barcelona went to law to solve the issues surrounding Gavi’s contract and basically sued La Liga to force them to affirm the registration of the youngster’s new contract.
Provisionally, the judge decided in favor of the Barcelona, but La Liga already filed their appeal to the decision. But how shameful is that a club and its own league have to go to court to settle their disagreements? Sadly, an ugly war is unfolding in front of our very eyes. We deeply hope it will be solved soon, and we won’t have to see a long, unpleasant Tebas–Laporta fight in the near future, destroying the renown and competitiveness of the league and the club.
Anyways, let’s turn to the bright side of the case. With the judge’s approval, our 18-year-old Golden Boy, Pablo Gavi has been finally registered as a first-team player, and with that, he got the illustrious number 6 jersey, the one the club’s current manager, the legendary Xavi Hernández wore among others.
With great respect comes great responsibility. The Spanish youngster has already been an essential part of the team this season, and his terrific talent secures that midfield spot for the future.
With Dembélé’s absence, however, an even bigger responsibility falls to the youngster, and we might get to see him starting in the false winger role in a 4-midfielder setup today to overwhelm the Betis midfield. Certainly, Xavi has some solutions under his sleeve, which will be needed against such a strong Betis side. Visca Barça.
