The winter transfer window is going to open in only one day and clubs across Europe, including FC Barcelona, are preparing to fulfill their objectives for the January market.
Meanwhile, reports and rumours associating different players with different clubs are also heating up, and are expected to remain hot till the end of the window.
One such rumor that has been getting attention in England is related to one of Manchester United’s players currently playing in Spain. The player in question is Mason Greenwood, who is currently playing on loan at Getafe and is not expected to leave the Madrid-based club till the end of this season.
As SPORT has noted, the 30th January edition of the English publication “The Sun” claims that Barcelona is one of the clubs interested in Greenwood, and the Catalans would be willing to pay as much as €45 million for him.
The report goes even further to claim that Barcelona would also offer him the historic number 10 shirt, which has been worn by several club legends, including Lionel Messi, and which has been vacant since the departure of Ansu Fati, who is currently injured while on loan at Brighton, in the last summer transfer window.
Greenwood has been performing at a very high level in La Liga and has already accumulated three goals and four assists up to now.
Still, it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will make a move for him. It needs to be remembered here that Greenwood was unable to play for Manchester United for two years after he was accused of attempted sexual assault.
While the charges were later withdrawn by the justice system in England, Manchester United faced immense pressure from fans when they considered bringing him back to the team, and such a reaction will also be expected at Barcelona.
In addition to this reaction from the fans, the sum of €45 million would also be almost unaffordable for Barcelona, unless the Catalans sell some of their current players to raise the required funds.
Thus, despite the reports in England, it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will make a move for the Manchester United player any time soon.
