It has been more than two years since Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona, but he still remains highly relevant to the Catalan club.
In fact, as already reported here, after winning his eighth Ballon d’Or award last night, the Argentine talked about different aspects related to Barcelona and also talked about his wish to get associated with the club once again in the near future.
Messi open to a farewell at Barcelona
The Argentine did not leave Barcelona on the best of terms, and there has still not been an official farewell for Messi where his supporters could have bid their farewell to one of the biggest Barcelona legends.
In his talk after receiving the prestigious award last night, Messi was receptive to the idea of such a farewell being organized by the Catalan club. According to Mundo Deportivo, officials in Barcelona are also open to such an event, and in fact, they want to hold such an event as soon as possible.
Barcelona want to hold the farewell in 2024
Thus, MD reports that Messi’s words have been received very well by the club, and there is already open contact between the club and Messi’s family to discuss the details of his farewell.
Barcelona are planning to arrange this event when the team returns to play at Camp Nou, and both parties want the event to be held at the historical Barcelona stadium.
The Blaugranes have also assured that they will hold Messi’s farewell as soon as they return to Camp Nou, which is expected to happen at the end of November 2024, when the stadium will be able to operate at 60% of its capacity.
Previously, the Catalans were also considering waiting till Camp Nou was 100% functional, but the club believes waiting till 2026 for such an event is too long, and the farewell should take place sooner than that.
