At the moment, it is quite clear that FC Barcelona have extreme financial problems to worry about. The Catalan giants have been halted in many of their transfer pursuits as a result of those aforementioned problems. However, moving forward, Barcelona hope to overcome those difficulties once and for all.
To do that, they must first have a plan of action in front of them. It is only with calculated measures and approaches can they bypass their own economic barriers. For now, two operations that generate a lot of attention are those of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.
Two of Portugal’s finest players, and also big difference makers for Barcelona, they are currently not permanent members of the Catalan club. Instead, they are currently on loan from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, respectively.
However, much debate has revolved around the possibility of Barcelona potentially only making one of them a permanent signing. To deny that perspective, and provide a new one, the latest update from Fabrizio Romano does well.
As highlighted by the reliable Italian journalist, it seems that Barcelona has plans for both stars. Jorge Mendes, the agent for both Portuguese stars, recently spoke to ‘Record’ about Barça’s idea:
“Barcelona want to keep both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo beyond this season. They want to make the deals permanent.”
This news, in turn, implies that Barcelona are prepared to pay the demands of their respective clubs. In Cancelo’s case, the objective seems a bit affordable. However, when it comes to Joao Felix and Atletico Madrid, the asking price is reportedly quite high.
Regardless, there are also other routes Barcelona could look to take. An extended loan or lowered fee after negotiation are some of the ways Barcelona could make a permanent operation feasible. However, there is also the debate of whether or not Felix is even worth spending that amount on.
For Jorge Mendes, the recent criticism is nothing but unfair. As per his own words: “His performances have been very good so far.”
While it is true that the Portuguese forward continues to show inconsistencies, it is also arguable that he seems almost unstoppable at his best. Even in the most recent victory over Real Betis, it was his absurd trivela goal that ensured Barcelona the lead after some tense moments.
