With less than one month to go before the conclusion of the transfer window, Barcelona are yet to make a high-profile signing this summer. Despite being linked with a number of names, a move hasn’t materialized yet.
Things have gone cold on the Nico Williams front, with Inaki Williams pushing to convince his brother to stay at Bilbao. The 22-year-old is yet to give Barcelona an answer on his future as the club continues to wait.
One more player that Barcelona are heavily linked with is Dani Olmo. As per SPORT, the Catalan club wants to wrap up a deal for the 26-year-old Bundesliga star by this week. Crucial days lie ahead in this transfer saga.
The Spanish club have already made transfer offers for Olmo. The first was deemed unacceptable by RB Leipzig but Barcelona’s revised offer of €55m plus €7m in add-ons showed the German club how serious Deco & co. are in securing the Spaniard’s signature. It must be mentioned here that the club has already agreed contract terms with the player until 2030.
Despite positive signs, nothing has been finalized between the two clubs on Olmo’s transfer. Meanwhile, the report also adds that the 26-year-old wants guarantees from Barcelona regarding his registration, considering the Spanish club’s issues with FFP. Bayern are still lurking in the background, ready to swoop in should there be an opportunity.
However, Sporting Director Deco remains optimistic about signing Olmo despite the small gap in valuation. More importantly, what the two clubs need to agree on right now is the payment structure and its deadlines.
RB Leipzig need to make a sale this summer but not at any cost. The German club won’t get rolled over in negotiations and will only let Olmo leave at the right price. Olmo’s agents and even Deco are currently in Germany as all parties look to wrap up this deal as soon as possible.
At this point, it increasingly looks like Olmo will be a Barcelona player next season and hence, there is no point in arguing the merits and the demerits of the transfer. The 26-year-old is a special talent who will thrive in Hansi Flick’s system.
The only downside is that this signing could affect the game time for some of our younger talents like Fermin Lopez and Pablo Torre. It’s up to Flick to find a solution to keep all his players happy and bring the best out of Olmo in a Barca shirt.
