Barcelona loanee Abde

Barcelona weigh selling young winger as a last resort strategy

Following the conclusion of a successful loan spell at Osasuna, Barcelona winger Ez Abde has been on the ascendancy ever since. He recently was crowned winner of the AFCON under 23 with Morocco and is swaying the attention of many European sides, who continue to eye his electric profile.

However, in light of the player’s increased market value and Barcelona’s strained finances, Abde will not have a straightforward path to the squad for next season. In fact, the Moroccan will have to bide his time before the Catalans can offer assurance as they work tirelessly on their exit operations.

In a recent revelation by Diario AS, Barcelona do not prioritize the sale of Abde, but may have to act out of necessity if the previously transfer listed players, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres, end up staying. In that case, Abde’s transfer will be considered a last resort to balance the accounts, solving their tussles with financial fair play.

From Xavi’s perspective, it is clear to see his hands are tied behind his back. While he prefers to offload Ferran and Ansu, with neither player a suitable solution for the new tactical template Xavi has drawn up, their insistence to fight for a place has threatened Abde’s chances of continuing.

Juventus has been linked with Abde previously, while teams from the Premier League have started to take notice of the speedster’s upward trajectory. Real Betis have also been reported as one of the interested clubs.

In any case, Abde faces an uncomfortable situation, owing to the uncertainty that lies ahead of him this summer. With a contract running until 2026, he does not have much leverage in discussions, but will surely have the last word. It is not ruled out that the player ultimately declines any offers if the Blaugranes stall excessively.
