In recent years, FC Barcelona have been forced to be prudent with their moves in the transfer market as their financial conditions do not allow them to spend as freely as they used to do in the last decade.
With such financial handicaps, the Catalans have relied on getting highly competent players on free transfers or signing young players while they are still affordable.
With their economic problems expected to remain in the upcoming years, the Catalans are still keeping an eye on any such opportunities that can help them land highly competent players at low prices.
Barcelona interested in Portuguese defender
According to SPORT, there has been a development in this regard, as Barcelona have become interested in a youngster whom they can sign for free in the coming months.
The player in question is Tiago Djalo, who is currently playing with Lille but has no intentions of extending his contract with the French side.
The young defender is being seen as a market opportunity by the Catalans, but they will have to compete with Inter Milan for his signing.
No space for another center-back
Djalo is already a Portuguese international at 23 years of age and has trained with Sporting Portugal and AC Milan in the youth ranks.
He is currently one of the best players in Europe who will be available for free, and his progress at Lille has attracted the attention of Deco, who also knows him from his participation in youth ranks and senior Portugal international team.
The center-back has a towering height of 1’90 and has a great aerial game. In recent months, he has also improved his passing and is now good at getting the ball out from the back as well.
In principle, Barcelona do not need to sign another center-back for now, as this position is already very well covered. However, they can sell one of their specialists at the back to generate some much-needed revenue, with Araujo the only player that the club would not consider selling.
