FC Barcelona have continued to struggle with injuries this season and it has been quite problematic. While the perfect record in La Liga so far will probably hide those difficulties well, they are still there to manage nonetheless. Ultimately, the problems pile up on Barcelona coach Hansi Flick to figure out.
Initially, there were many reports and links suggesting Barcelona could pursue a new defensive midfielder this summer. By the end of the summer, however, no such arrival came to be and the club left that position just as reinforced as it was in the last campaign.
Yet, perhaps out of nowhere, the impressive young Marc Bernal caught the eye of the German coach. Upon seeing his composure and vision in the heart of the midfield, the new Barcelona coach seemed to have made it his mission to make the 17-year-old Bernal one of the starters of his team.
Unfortunately, an untimely injury ended up ruining the momentum that he had built up and has now led to the player undergoing a surgery for his ACL injury. While most would see this event as a possible end to his chances at Barcelona, the club itself does not seem to agree.
Instead, they have made a move to further showcase their faith and trust in the young player moving forward. As highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are 100% clear about what they want to do with Marc Bernal and it is their plan to activate a new deal for him moving forward.
The contract is reportedly all ready and it will include all the add-ons he was set to receive this year as part of his new salary. This move, furthermore, is one that is likely being pushed by both Joan Laporta and Deco, as they want to show their complete support to the young player currently recovering from his injury.
Fortunately, even the player himself is reacting positively following the injury and that is the reassuring part. Undoubtedly one of the few players that have truly excelled as a pivot at Barcelona since the departure of Sergio Busquets, a lot can be expected of Marc Bernal from his future but the player needs rest and recovery more than ever right now.
