FC Barcelona are looking to secure the future of one of their star forwards and a meeting with the player’s agent is planned for next week. Xavi holds the player in high regard and the club wants to finalize the details of renewal, hoping to retain the player’s services for years to come.

World Cup winner Ousmane Dembele has been a key player for Xavi and, consequently, for FC Barcelona, who are making strides to renew the winger’s contract, which was renewed just last season.

The current contract is destined to expire in June 2024, leaving him only a year away from the end of his current deal so the Catalan club is eager to initiate discussions with his agent, Moussa Sissoko.

The meeting is expected to take place in Barcelona, in the next week as per a recent report from Mundo Deportivo. Dembele’s contract includes a release clause of €100 million, which will drop to €50 million during the month of July, and, if a club were to pay this amount, the player would get half of the entire sum.

There can be potential suitors for Dembele but the winger’s focus remains on extending his stay at the Catalan capital. Barcelona’s hierarchy is planning to extend the player’s contract until 2026 and the coach is on board with the idea but prefers to wait until the 27th league title is secured by the club.

Regardless, Xavi has high praise for Dembele and considers him a top-priority player, and the Frenchman is well aware of his squad role at the club. The club, the player, and the agent have complete trust in one another and if negotiations extend beyond the summer transfer window, there will be no complaints from anyone.
