Sofyan Amrabat on the agenda of FC Barcelona

Barcelona will push to sign Moroccan midfielder on loan with a purchase option on deadline day

The last World Cup held in Qatar was an opportunity for a number of footballers from smaller clubs to showcase their talent on the biggest stage. One of the players that took this opportunity to the fullest was the Moroccan Sofyan Amrabat, whose Morocco team went on to the Semi-final stage of the tournament while eliminating some of the heavyweights in Spain and Portugal.

Naturally, Amrabat, and some of his other teammates, have seen their stock and valuation rise significantly in the post-World Cup period.

FC Barcelona are among the clubs that have been impressed with Amrabat’s performances in the World Cup and have been attentive to his situation. Recent reports in Spanish media, particularly from Mundo Deportivo, hold that Barcelona have already contacted the player’s entourage. However, direct contacts between the club and Amrabat himself, and between Barcelona and Amrabat’s club Fiorentina are yet to take place.

Still, the Mundo Deportivo reports claim that Barcelona are optimistic about getting the player on the last day of the winter transfer window. The player’s agent is the same as that of Sergino Dest, and the club has a good relationship with this agent.

Gerard Romero has also made similar claims about Barcelona’s interest in Sofyan Amrabat, while Marca further claims that the Catalans will submit a loan offer on the deadline day, with an option to permanently buy the player for €35 million at the end of the season.

Irrespective of the terms of the deal, Barcelona will have to move swiftly to sign Amrabat in this window, as time is against them, and they will have to complete the deal and the move today at the latest.
