The current January transfer window is passing by relatively silently for FC Barcelona. The weak overall financial position of the club, and the minimal wage margin available to the club means Barcelona cannot make any new signings in this window. The highly inflated market for top football talent today further complicates matters for the Catalan club in this regard.
Still, SPORT reports that the club hierarchy has not totally ruled out new signings in this transfer window. The club is working particularly towards the arrival of a versatile forward. One who can play in a variety of forward positions, and can ideally also finish chances. While such options are also available in the market, the wage limitations again make any such undertaking difficult.
Previously, it was reported that FC Barcelona would postpone any arrival to the end of this season. However, La Liga has already warned the Catalans about their minimal operating wage margin. This makes going into the market in the current window the most suitable option for the club.
The club expects that its stature and name would help convince a top-level footballer to drastically reduce his wage demands to join the historic club. They are encouraged by their experience with Aubameyang last season.
Barcelona would be able to put more attention into this operation as they have concluded their main objectives in this window. Renewals of Araujo, Gavi, and Pena have been reported to be completed. But formal announcements of these renewals would only be made at the end of the season because of the wage limits for the current season.
