FC Barcelona have faced their fair share of injury problems over the last couple of years with players across the field in different positions. Oftentimes, these injuries have gone as far as to stall a certain player’s progression and even stopped others from seemingly recreating their former qualities prior to the injury.
Ansu Fati’s case, in particular, is a rather sour topic for those concerned with FC Barcelona. A plethora of career-threatening injuries resulted in the 20-year-old losing sight of his former self and becoming a mere shell of his very best version.
As a result, Barcelona have learned to become quite cautious when it comes to injuries of any nature in the hopes of limiting the chance of a relapse or worse as much as possible. The most recent injury to 24-year-old Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo is a key decision matter that Barcelona have made up their mind about.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, FC Barcelona will look to give Ronald Araujo as much time as possible to make his recovery from the injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg that he suffered during a training session.
As a result of that injury, Araujo has only been able to partake in one official La Liga match this season. Following his appearance against Getafe in the opening fixture, the 24-year-old defender has been unavailable for selection for the games against Cadiz, Villarreal, and Osasuna.
While Barcelona have not set an exact date for his return from injury, SPORT believes that the Uruguayan defender is expected to be back in action for Barca against Celta Vigo in the Montjuic Stadium on the 23rd of this month.
His chances of appearing against Real Betis are close to being completely ruled out as well, but there remains a slight possibility that he could be given the green light for Barca’s first game of the UEFA Champions League group stage against Royal Antwerp that is scheduled for the 19th of September.
However, given Araujo’s history with injuries and how troublesome they have been for the player already during his team at Barcelona, Xavi and the coaching staff are abiding by the rulings of the doctors and allowing the defender as much time as possible to recover.
According to SPORT, Araujo has missed a total of 272 days while contracted to Barca, having had to suffer 14 separate injuries during that accumulated time span.
