FC Barcelona continue to house some problematic financial issues, and they continue to face difficulties because of them. Even now, the salary margin is not at the ideal point that La Blaugrana need it to be at. To make sure that it is, Barcelona may have to take extreme measures.
One of those measures could be to relieve players who are not considered crucial to the side moving forward. Players who, despite their own sporting brilliance, are seen as expendable for Barcelona. In terms of such players, one possible candidate is a certain 32-year-old summer arrival.
According to SPORT, because of these financial reasons, Barcelona is now open to parting ways with Inigo Martinez. The Spanish defender, formerly from Athletic Club, is not amongst the club’s highest earners, but his salary is still a significant one that will only continue to grow.
In terms of the original registration of the player, it could only be limited to one season. However, on a private and personal level, the agreement between Barcelona and Martinez exists for another additional year.
Moreover, to ensure the registration was eligible in the first place, Martinez had to let go of some financial benefits that would be rewarded later on in his second season.
To avoid paying this additional amount that would unsurprisingly take an even bigger toll on Barça’s payroll, the Catalan club is willing to facilitate his departure. In fact, as per SPORT, Barcelona are willing to help out their 32-year-old defender find a suitable destination.
Beyond just a sporting fit, they will help him find a good economic offer as well. However, Martinez’s departure is not solely based on financial reasons either. With the stability offered by the likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and now even Pau Cubarsi being there, the former Athletic Club player has more or less been pushed to a secondary role.
By allowing him to leave, others will have more space and opportunities to work with. Furthermore, even other youngsters from the Barcelona subsidiary could end up getting more chances to shine. For now, however, the future of Martinez remains with Barcelona until more concrete information emerges.
