FC Barcelona executives are working on materializing several sales of fringe players at the club to make room for new arrivals in the wage bill and to gain some much-needed funds. Several valuable players like Raphinha, Fati, and Torres have been identified as those whom the club is open to selling.
Franck Kessie was another player that has previously reported to be on the transfer list of the Catalan club. The Ivorian midfielder arrived as a free agent last summer and has some meaningful appearances for the Blaugranas during the season.
However, he has not been able to lock down a starting spot, and thus the club was considering a sale, with some Premier League and Serie A sides showing interest.
However, the latest news by SPORT claim that the situation with Kessie has changed at the club. Barcelona would sell the player only if they get an offer around the €35 mark, which they are yet to receive.
In case such an offer does not come in this summer, the club would be more open to retaining the player as they do not have any other player of Kessie’s profile in the squad.
Till now, Inter Milan have shown the greatest interest in the midfielder but have only come up with swap options. One such option that has aroused Barcelona’s interest is that involving Brozovic, but the Catalan club is not entirely convinced that this is a good deal to accept.
The club expects a Premier League side to come up with an offer that matches their valuation of the player, but no such offer has materialized up to now. Thus, the chances of Kessie continuing in the Barcelona colors for the next season are increasing.
The options for the replacement of Busquets are currently too expensive for the Catalans, and Xavi can end up using Kessie in the spot ahead of the defense. While he would not offer the same attributes as Busquets, Kessie’s physical prowess can still be valuable in this area of the pitch.
