Barcelona target Ivan Fresneda

Barcelona willing to spend €15 million on young fullback despite Cancelo operation – report

FC Barcelona have made concrete advancements in their transfer pursuits over the last week or so, with the operation concerning the right-back position in particular now paying dividends as the Catalans look to bring in one of the best European fullbacks to Barcelona.

The player in question is none other than 29-year-old Manchester City and Portuguese National team fullback Joao Cancelo, for whom the Catalans may well have now submitted a formal bid according to several reliable sources, and his arrival could be imminent.

However, prior to the advancements made to this degree on the Portuguese fullback, Barcelona had a list of various fullbacks as the alternatives should Cancelo’s operation have not worked out and one of those was a particular 18-year-old Spaniard from Real Valladolid.

Ivan Fresneda was one of the top priorities for Barcelona to sign in terms of both his sporting capabilities and the potential to see his value skyrocket in the coming years. Moreover, it may appear that his operation does not get fully disqualified regardless of the Cancelo operation.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona would be willing to take one final chance with the youngster and offer his club a package of €9 million as a fixed amount alongside €6 million as bonuses and add-ons to bring him over to Barcelona.

Barcelona previously also attempted to capture his transfer by offering €8 million fixed alongside €5 million in variables, however, that offer was rejected by Valladolid.

As it stands, should the 18-year-old arrive at Barcelona, there exists a very strong possibility that he may be sent out immediately on loan to another First Division side similar to Julian Araujo, currently at UD Las Palmas, to gain experience and game time especially if Cancelo’s operation ends up being a success.
