FC Barcelona and the Spanish National team have always been closely linked to an extent. The World Cup won by Spain in 2010 is also heavily attributed to the fact that La Roja had at their disposal many of the elite stars of Barcelona such as Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, and David Villa among others.

Contributions at the club level often translate to selections at the international level as well. Many players see them being called up for their national teams once they truly start displaying their qualities with their respective clubs.

The most recent movement of Spain, due to certain circumstances, now sees yet another Barcelona star be called up. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Luis de la Fuente has called up Barcelona forward Ferran Torres to the Spanish National team for the first time since his appointment as manager of La Roja.

Following three previous call-ups where he was left uninvited, the 23-year-old forward finally makes the cut following injury concerns with both Dani Olmo and Marco Asensio, the pair that ended up being substituted even before the half-time whistle in Spain’s recent clash against Georgia in their European Qualifier match.

It is also worth noting that de la Fuente has called upon Ferran Torres from the vast list of talents at his disposal particularly due to the Spaniard’s great displays this season for FC Barcelona already.

Having been the top scorer for the Catalan outfit during their entire pre-season, he has also not fallen off during their official campaign thus far despite not being a primary starter within Xavi Hernandez’s side. Within the 63 minutes that he has played across three games for Barcelona, the 23-year-old has already managed to score two goals for the Catalan giants.

Moreover, his record with the Spanish National team itself has also been nothing short of impressive. Within the 35 games that he has played for La Roja, the player has scored 15 goals for his national team.

An impressive tally in its own right, it also comes alongside obvious good feelings that emerge from him being such a versatile asset for his country given his ability to play anywhere across the offensive structure of the team.
