Barcelona winger passes his medical, may sign new contract with PSG tomorrow

Former Barcelona winger Dembele

FC Barcelona came into this summer transfer window knowing that they would have to sell several of their players to raise funds and lower their wage bill.

These two outcomes will contribute significantly to the Catalan club’s registration of their new contracts with La Liga and going into the next season with a highly competitive squad.

Despite lagging in the achievement of this important objective of offloading fringe players and making sales to obtain funds, Barcelona are now getting things done. They have already officially announced the sale of Franck Kessie to Al-Ahli, which will provide them with €12.5 million.

Another player that they are close to parting with is the French winger Ousmane Dembele. Dembele has been strongly linked with Paris Saint Germain in the last few weeks, and his move is looking highly likely to take place in the coming days.

The latest reports on Dembele’s transfer to PSG by journalist Fabrice Hawkins claim that the Frenchman has already passed his medical with the Parisian club. Hawkins further mentions that the winger will officially become a PSG player when he signs his contract with the French club, which is expected to be done tomorrow.

There is no doubt that FC Barcelona will lose a top-class player when Dembele leaves the Catalan club to join PSG, but the cash injection received from his move somewhat mitigates the damage from his loss.

The club still has to register its new contracts with La Liga and is also looking for a new right-back and an attacking midfielder before this summer transfer window ends.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will still have their wings more than covered, with players like Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Ez Abde, and Raphinha all in contention for places in the starting line-up.

This competition becomes even more intense as Xavi has been playing with only two attackers and four midfielders in most matches in the last season.
