FC Barcelona witnessed the debut of a particular Portuguese talent starting for the first time as a Blaugrana at the Montjuic Stadium against Real Betis. An arrival from a fellow Spanish side on loan, the player had much to prove heading into this game.
Of course, the player in question is none other than 23-year-old Atletico Madrid player Joao Felix, who is currently on loan at FC Barcelona for the 2023/24 season. Among the starters for the game against Betis, Felix did all he could to imprint himself into the eyes of the Camp Nou faithful.
As highlighted by Spanish outlet SPORT, the young Portuguese forward was more than involved during the entirety of his time on the field and presented Barcelona with several opportunities to be awed and amazed as he continued to showcase his dangerous qualities.
Dazzling at the Montjuic
Scoring the opener and initiating the most important move in the buildup to the second one, Joao Felix was consistent and dangerous with almost everything he tried. Even after his direct goal contributions, he did not stop contributing in whatever way he could.
For his first goal, he had a bit of luck on his side undoubtedly as he mistimed his strike but it did not come away too far. Within a flash, he was there to expertly control the ball away from the Betis keeper and from the tightest of angles, he struck away a powerful shot to break the deadlock in the favour of Barcelona.
Within a few minutes, he already helped create another. A pass with decent velocity found its way heading into Felix’s path, but instead of turning or doing anything with it, the Portuguese star let it pass through his legs in an expertly timed dummy that found its way to the already prepared Robert Lewandowski.
Without hesitance, the Polish striker capitalized on the great opportunity created by Felix and struck the ball powerfully into the bottom corner of the goal, giving Rui Silva absolutely no chance of stopping Barcelona from grabbing another one.
Later onwards, Felix would even have a goal disallowed for offside as well as a powerful shot saved right in front of the goal. Leaving the Montjuic stadium undoubtedly happy and as one of the many great performers of the night, Barcelona and Felix will both be looking forward to things to come given how promising their journey together is already looking.
