Xavi Hernandez’s announcement of leaving FC Barcelona at the end of this season has left the top managerial position in the team with a lot of uncertainty.

Barcelona have been linked with various different coaches to replace Xavi in the dugout, but as things stand, the Catalans have put the process of finding Xavi’s successor on hold, at least till the conclusion of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final stage, in which Barcelona are set to face Paris Saint Germain.

Meanwhile, in recent weeks, there have been increasing indications coming out of the club that Xavi may not actually leave at the end of the season, and both the President Joan Laporta and the Vice President Rafa Yuste in their recent media appearances made it clear that they were still hopeful Xavi will reconsider his decision and stay at the club beyond the summer.

The latest news in this regard from Mundo Deportivo claims that the club is actually working to make Xavi stay at Barcelona, and there are several reasons why the club believes this will be the best possible scenario for them going forward.

Firstly, Laporta believes Xavi is the best-suited coach to get the best out of this current squad, especially from the youngsters who have gotten their opportunities to shine at the highest level under him, like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and Hector Fort.

Similarly, Laporta also knows that Xavi commands a lot of respect in the dressing room, not only from these youngsters but also from the veterans. Thus, he is able to keep players like Ferran Torres and Raphinha happy, without them having a place in the starting lineup.

The Barcelona President also believes that Xavi and the Sporting Director Deco have a good relationship, and they can work well together going into the future.

Thus, Laporta wants to ensure that Xavi remains at the club till his contract, that goes till 2025, expires, while also not forgetting the option of a further year.

The President is also planning to reinforce the squad to entice Xavi, with some practical additions this summer, while in the next summer transfer window, they will push to bring Erling Haaland to replace Robert Lewandowski.
