FC Barcelona is a club that has always remained prideful about the quality of the youngsters it produces. The Blaugranes are especially renowned for this and La Masia has undoubtedly developed some of the greatest footballers that have ever graced the sport.
This trend does not seem to stop even with the new generation. Some of the most promising young footballers all hail from Barcelona even today. The likes of Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and Lamine Yamal are all products of La Masia.
However, it is also quite easy to get carried away because of their talents and exceptional abilities. By becoming extremely reliant on them to perform on a consistent basis, these youngsters are not given enough time to rest and regain their fitness.
One of the primary victims of this seems to be Gavi. The 19-year-old Barcelona Golden Boy winner has been working relentlessly this season. First with Barcelona over the course of the ongoing campaign, and now with Spain during the international break.
As highlighted by Diario AS in a recent video, it seems that Gavi may now be dealing with extreme levels of fatigue. Following Spain’s 3-1 win over Cyprus, Gavi was seen with a worried and tired look on his face as the players shook hands and greeted after the game’s conclusion.
As per statistics, Gavi has featured or played in 98% of the total minutes available this season for both club and country since the 26th of September. These numbers are exhausting as they are even for the most experienced of performers, but for a 19-year-old they are simply absurd.
Barcelona and Spain would do well to tread carefully with one of their most prized stars. The mistakes committed with Pedri in the 2020/21 season can not be made again since the Canary Islander is now already struggling with an influx of muscular injuries possibly due to the lingering fatigue from that season.
