FC Barcelona are famed for their trust in youth, with many of the game’s greatest, most technically gifted players hailing from La Masia. In the most recent turn of events, Xavi Hernandez shocked the world by naming 15-year-old winger Lamine Yamal in his squad for the upcoming home game against Atletico Madrid.
If the Blaugrana boss chooses to give minutes to the youngster, he would become the youngest player in the Catalan club’s history, overcoming the 82-year standing record set by Vicenc Martinez on 18th October 1941.
Yamal is already making waves around the footballing world with the incredible talent that he possesses. The winger, at 15 years of age, is already playing and impressing for the Barcelona U-19 side, Juvenil A.
He is turning heads with his performances, where he has shown excellent ability on the ball and a good understanding of the Barca way. This barely went unnoticed as the youngster now finds his name on the squad list for the first team, a testament to Barcelona’s continued commitment to nurturing youth in football.
Xavi has been closely observing the progress of Yamal and also spoke highly of him in his most recent press conference, as he commended the “personality and talent” that the young prodigy brings to the table. He seemed convinced that the youngster could “mark a milestone in the club.”
