FC Barcelona are famous for developing quality players through their famed youth academy, La Masia. One of the players coming through who has been touted for great things is 15-year-old Lamine Yamal. In addition to Barcelona Atlètic, the youngster has also been showing his quality with the Spanish U-17 team.
The youngster is currently representing the Spanish U-17 side in European Championships, and after having led Spain in the match against Italy, the player has also been significantly influential in the match against Slovenia, according to a report published by SPORT.
In the second match of the Spanish team in the tournament, Lamal scored the third goal of the match. He was one of the best players in this match against Slovenia, as he unbalanced the opposition with his quality on the right wing. One of his plays in the opposition box resulted in a penalty for the Spaniards, and Lamal himself converted the penalty into a goal with a precise strike near the post.
While Lamal has deservedly been shining in the European Championships, and has scored his debut goal for the U-17 side, he is still behind another Barcelona player, Marc Guiu, in the top-scoring charts of the tournament.
Yamal has already been making records with FC Barcelona. This April, he became the youngest player to have played for Barcelona, as he made an appearance in the club’s tie against Real Betis, being only 15 years and 290 old. Overall, he is the fifth youngest player to have made an appearance in La Liga.
The player has been particularly impressive for the subsidiary, and the head coach, Xavi likes him a lot. Xavi set him out for particular praise in the aftermath of his debut with the team, and described him as a “fearless” player.
Thus, Lamine Yamal will be looking to continue on his impressive form with the national U-17 team, and expecting to get his first senior team call-up as soon as possible.
