There are those within FC Barcelona who provide technical brilliance, those that provide work ethic and then there are those who possess both. From the nurturing realms of La Masia to now the spotlight among the European elite, Barcelona possesses a youngster who defies expectations at his age.
Pablo Gavira, commonly referred to as simply Gavi is an 18-year-old prodigy currently under the wings of Xavi Hernandez and his new-gen Barcelona side. Despite his obviously young age, the talented midfielder has already become a mainstay within the Catalan side courtesy of his obvious technical qualities, but also because of his dedication to the side and the Blaugrana badge.
Developed and trained in La Masia, it would be no surprise to learn that the youngster holds a special affinity towards FC Barcelona, but even so, his participation numbers this season are immense. Even more so due to the fact that he has continued playing despite obvious signs of injury, discomfort and even goes in for arguably life-threatening challenges when defending the Barcelona badge.
In the 2022-2023 season, the 18 year old has dedicated 3239 minutes to FC Barcelona across their various competitions. Out of these minutes, 2258 have been played across his 32 appearances in La Liga Santander, 374 minutes have been in the Copa Del Ray, 331 and 90 in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League respectively, and lastly 186 minutes in the Spanish Super Cup.
Gavi has, in terms of percentage, participated in 93.75% of all matches that FC Barcelona have played this season, almost identical to Pedri’s 96% in the 2020-2021 season under ex-Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman.
These statistics clearly showcase just how crucial Xavi Hernandez considers the 18 year old to be, and just how devoted Pablo Gavira is to the Catalan club of his dreams.
