Barcelona youngster’s sale to Porto may not be so smooth after all

FC Barcelona have been working to ensure the acquisition of new players but also the sale of some. This is because the Catalan club is suffering from their financial limitations, and they still need a way out. However, to make sure that those limitations do not come in their way, Barcelona need sales as well.

That is why the potential sale of young Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye to Porto for €15 million could have been a great positive for Barcelona. Not just because it would not have to be the sale of a first-team player, but also because it would count as a major sale given the amount that was expected to come out of it.

Unfortunately, it seems that things may not be that easy for Barcelona after all. According to Mundo Deportivo, the latest revelations and news from Portuguese sources suggest that the final amount that Porto would be willing to pay for the player may not come anywhere close to €15 million.

Instead, the Portuguese club may only be willing to go up to €5 million to get the player’s services. This is because, as per MD, Porto are suffering from some financial restrictions of their own and they are unable to afford the €15 million that many reports seem to be suggesting that they would have been willing to pay for the young defender.

However, the same report also suggests the inclusion of future rights for the player as a compensation. That is what Porto would be willing to offer in order to take away Faye’s services permanently for now. On the other hand, however, other sources still would counter these recent claims.

Whatever the reasoning may end up being, the originally reported €15 million still seemed like a fair deal. For now, MD highlights that no official call has been made from Porto to FC Barcelona just yet. Moreover, the Catalan club still hopes to keep Faye within the club and hopes that he can impress Hansi Flick enough to cement a first-team place for himself.
