One of the players who have been regularly linked with FC Barcelona in the last few weeks and months is the German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. The young midfielder is having a great season in Germany after recovering from a long-term injury, and his form is generating interest from throughout Europe.
Wirtz has already scored five goals this season and given eight assists in thirteen appearances for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. He is an integral part of the team that is currently leading the Bundesliga table, having a two-point advantage over Bayern Munich.
Several clubs interested in Wirtz
With his form, Wirtz has been a player of interest for several big European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Chelsea. As already mentioned, Barcelona is also interested in the youngster and has been linked with him for some time now.
Leverkusen not concerned with Barcelona’s interest
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Leverkusen are not particularly bothered by Barcelona’s interest in their 20-year-old midfield star.
They would definitely not want to lose their star player, but with a contract that still goes till 2027, and their valuation of the player that ranges between €80-100 million, the German club is not too concerned with Barcelona’s interest in the midfielder.
Officials at Leverkusen know that Barcelona currently cannot afford a player for such a high price, and the Catalans themselves confess that Wirtz is an unviable option for now, as they cannot enter a bidding war for him.
However, his already expressed interest in Barcelona plays in their favor, but the contract of the player would still be an issue as it still has three years on it, and the player himself will not be in a position to force a move even if things got to such a point.
