While almost every star within FC Barcelona is important to Xavi’s plans, some have a long-term benefit to them as well. The current generation of veterans will at best give the Catalans joy for a few more years. However, the youngsters of the club have a long way still to go.

Much of the applaud and plaudits go towards players that are forwards and midfielders. Youngsters like Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Gavi are seen as the future of Barcelona, and rightfully so. However, even the strong and loyal defenders of Barça are essential to their future.

One such defender, Ronald Araujo, is seen as a Barcelona captain for years to come. His mentality, physicality, and passion for Blaugranes are all traits that make him who he is. However, his great displays have also managed to capture the attention of several other European greats.

According to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, the interest from Bayern Munich in Araujo is indeed real. The Bavarian giants are interested in his services and Thomas Tuchel reportedly “loves” the Uruguayan defender.

However, Romano then clarifies that Barcelona on the other hand, have no intention of negotiating. The Catalan giants consider Araujo to be untouchable and are interested in something quite different. For Barcelona, a renewal is in mind for the Uruguayan.

Currently contracted to Barcelona until 2026, La Blaugrana hope to extend this expiration date soon. Aged just 24, the Uruguayan defender still has many years to offer his services to Catalan ginats. By 2026, he would be around only 27. This is telling enough as to why Barcelona wish to retain one of Europe’s best defenders.

Moreover, Araujo is also one of the most valuable players in Barcelona’s arsenal. Valued at €70 million, the Barcelona defender is among the highest-valued defenders in world football. Thus, his continuity with La Blaugrana is seen as important to the club both on and off the field.
