The January transfer window is fast approaching, and Barcelona will be quite invested. While there are not too many arrivals expected for the Catalan giants, La Blaugrana are known to conjure up unexpected deals. For this reason, investigating potential transfers concerning Barcelona is important.

One of the main talking points when it comes to departures from Barcelona has been that of Ronald Araujo recently. Quite an unlikely target, given his prominence within the team and the fact that he is a captain after all, the Uruguayan being linked to a move away from Barcelona felt quite absurd to most.

However, as the reports began to increase in volume, Araujo’s link-up with Bayern Munich also began to gather more attention. As per several reports, the Bavarian giants are interested in the Barcelona defender.

The Bavarian club and especially Thomas Tuchel really seem to admire the Uruguayan defender and reportedly would want him at Bayern.

To add more fuel to a growing fire, even more public confirmation has come through. As highlighted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern director Christoph Freund has subtly confirmed that talks have taken place possibly between the involved parties.

As per the actual statement regarding Araujo, the following has been shared by Romano:

“I don’t want to make a statement on that. The transfer window is approaching. Generally speaking — there are some talks, but I don’t want to say anything about that in detail.”

For now, no confirmation is there regarding any actual talks but these hints dropped by Freund could be massive news. However, while Bayern may be interested, reports have also stated that Araujo has no plans of leaving Barça in January.

Alas, no one can be too sure. The Uruguayan remains one of the most committed Barcelona players in the current squad. However, football can be a cruel and unexpected business. As such, no possibility can be taken too lightly.
