Earlier in the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona targeted a number of high-profile players that could elevate their team. Following Sergio Busquets’ departure, Joshua Kimmich was a name the Blaugranes showed great interest in.
However, strained finances and Bayern’s lack of willingness to negotiate put several roadblocks in front of Barcelona in their pursuit for the German midfielder.
As such, Barcelona have been forced to scavenge the market for smart low-cost deals. According to Mundo Deportivo, though, Bayern have changed their stance on Kimmich now, deeming the player transferable as long as a suitable offer is presented.
With Barcelona the club that showed the most interest in the virtuosic midfielder, this news is arguably highly relevant to the Catalan headquarters.
If a suitable offer is made, the pivot, who served as Xavi Hernández’s main target at FC Barcelona, may decide to quit the ranks of the Bavarian squad.
Interest in Kimmich was a consequence of his innate distributive abilities from the base of midfield and his ability to emerge successful in duels. As Busquets’ replacement, he possesses all the traits needed to thrive at Barcelona.
Even so, despite Barcelona initially showing significant signs of interest in the player, that ship may have finally passed. Not only do the Blaugranes await Oriol Romeu’s arrival, who is set to fill in the defensive midfield position; but a worthy offer still has to be made for Kimmich.
In the current economic climate, this will be a tough ask. Considering the Catalan giants struggled to even muster up a formal offer for Brozovic, acquiring Kimmich still appears challenging.
Nonetheless, in the event departures are made and the likes of Ferran Torres and Frank Kessie hit the exit door, the possibility of making big signings in the market is on the cards.
