FC Barcelona are set to take on a new challenge up ahead, as they embark on untraveled soil. No longer is the Catalan club under the orders of Xavi Hernandez, but another coach altogether. Hansi Flick, a coach from Germany, will be next in line to take over at Barcelona.

The former Bayern Munich coach will be the first coach since Louis van Gaal at Barcelona who already has experience of having won the UEFA Champions League.

Moreover, given his connections within Germany and Bayern Munich, it is not surprising to see one of his former associates talk about him recently. As reported by SPORT, Lothar Matthaus has recently spoken about the man who is soon to lead Barcelona as per several reports.

A legendary German player himself, Matthaus has previously been a Ballon d’Or winner, as well as having played across multiple top clubs and has coaching experience as well. As per Matthaus, Hansi Flick would be excited by this prospect of joining Barcelona:

“He would be excited to be reunited with old friends in his new sporting project like Ter Stegen, Gundogan, and Lewandowski. Maybe he’ll take one or two more with him. I don’t know.”

That final sentence surely invites a lot of discourse, and the German legend was referring to Flick’s connections in the German National team. Through these connections, Matthaus highlighted two players he believes Flick would love to have with him at Barcelona:

“Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala… There are many players he would like to have with him at Barcelona, but they probably won’t be financially viable.”

While Matthaus is right about Barça’s financial predicaments, he is also correct in acknowledging two of the world’s best young players at the moment. Both Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, aged 21, are true stars of the German National team and would be excellent additions to a young Barcelona side.

Wirtz has already claimed in the past to be a Barcelona fan, while Musiala is a player whose skillset would thrive at the Catalan club. Two of the finest attacking midfielders in not just Europe but the world, Wirtz and Musiala continue to grow and impress exponentially as the seasons go by.

However, they are both valued at €110 million each by Transfermarkt as well. Moreover, both Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich would definitely ask for a price well above their market value.

At the moment, the signing of both these players would be an impossible dream for Barcelona. Yet, despite these economic struggles, Lothar Matthaus believes Flick would still welcome the challenge:

“For him, it represents a great challenge despite the economic difficulties he will encounter in Barcelona.”

He also revealed that the new Barcelona coach has always seemed to have an affinity towards Spain in general, something that should provide delight to fans of La Blaugrana:

“He is looking forward to taking on the task, and is looking forward to arriving in Barcelona. He is a bit of a Spain fanatic and spent many summers on vacation there with the whole family. I am happy for him after all the setbacks he had with Bayern Munich and the German national team.”
